◆ what is mcp

The Model Context Protocol is the open spec that lets a model call out to your local tools — files, browsers, databases, issue trackers — through a uniform interface. Servers run locally; clients (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, others) can connect to any of them. The list above is the ones I keep on this machine and would miss if they vanished.
